BottleGourd(lauki or sorakaya) -tomato curry


BottleGourd  or squash has good fibre content and is very low in calories.
Well i don't know if its fact or myth read somewhere that it helps in weightloss. 
Ok whatever in this recipe as this vegetable has a very delicate taste and blends well with tangy tomatoes  and  dash of green peas provides some protein.

you can take this with rice or chapathi or even add this in sandwich or with pita bread.
or just take this as it is as my daughter.


Ingredients:
1 tbsp. Ginger finely
3-4 green chilles chopped (increase or decrease based on hotness)
1 Bottle Gourd / Sorakaya (you can use chinese squash or any other type of squash)
2 medium sized Tomatos chopped 
1/2 cup green peas

seasoning
2 tbsp. Oil
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
chanadal 1/2 tsp
2 dreid red chilli chopped 
Asafoetida - one pinch
curry leaves - 2 twigs


toppings
1 tsp. Chili Powder optional
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
Salt to taste
Cilantro to garnish



Preparation:
Peel the gourd and chop it into small pieces 
Heat oil in a pan.
Add all the seasoning ingredients one by one, saute for a minute till mustard seeds pops


add chopped ginger and green chilles ,green peas saute for a minute.
Add bottle gourd pieces and mix well. Cover and cook for couple of minutes
add chopped tomatoes ,turmeric powder.chili powder ,salt and mix well.
Cover with a lid and cook for couple of minutes on medium or low heat 

after couple of minutes you will notice some water in the curry. if needed add 2-3 tsp of water ,mash tomato pieces
cover and cook till gourd pieces are completely cooked.
Turn off the heat, transfer to serving bowl, garnish with cilantro.

Serve it with any accompiant
