Coriander Garlic powder/dhaniya vellulli podi

This recipe is powder for Idly/Dosa serves as side munch for these south indian breakfast.
Podis have always been integral part of south Indian cooking. May it be sambar, rasam,curry, we see our elders might have prepared it well in advance and use it while cooking.Here is the podi/powder which I learnt from my mothers kitchen ,very useful yet yummy and serves as sides for south Indian breakfast like for idly's ,Dosa /upma.

This podi is made out of Garlic and coriander seeds ,and been my choice of preference for idlys.
Coriander and garlic powder


  1. Coriander /Dhaniya seeds-1 cup
  2. Urud dal-1/4 cup
  3. Garlic-5/6 pods
  4. red chillies-8-10
  5. tamarind-small lemon size
  6. salt- 1tbsp(adjust accordingly)


  1. Take pan and add urud  dal and dry roast for about couple of minutes till they turn slightly reddish shade.
  2. Now add dhaniya/coriander seeds, red chilies  garlic pods and tamarind and dry roast for about 5 minutes.
  3. once you get the nice aroma of all these spices being blended, grind them in mixer grinder by adding salt.
  4. cool it and store it in tight container.
  5. This goes very well with idly and dosa.
