Mango Rice

Mango rice is a simple rice recipe similar to tamarind rice/ lemon rice which we see one of the main rice platter served on auspicious days in south India.
Well Mango rice  is usually prepared with raw mangoes and has a exotic  taste because of its natural sourness and  also blended spices we choose to prepare this recipe.

Preparation of Mango rice is very simple, here is that simple method.

Mango Rice

  1. Mangoes-1 big size (as shown in the image/2 small)
  2. Rice- 2 cups
  3. red chilies- 5/8
  4. Ground nut- 1/2 cup
  5. Bengal gram split/chena dal-1/2 cup
  6. mustard seeds- 2 tbsp
  7. turmeric powder- 1 tbsp
  8. curry leaves- bunch
  9. coriander leaves-bunch
  10. oil- 2 tbsp


  • Pressure cook rice and keep it aside. Its always better to keep in elaborate  vessel so if any water contents will be relived.
  • Grate mangoes to extract 1 cup of grated mango.(I don't peel of the skin, it really adds taste if you don't take off skin)
  • Heat oil in a pan, add groundnut, Bengal gram split chena dal), red chilies, mustard seeds, curry leaves and turmeric powder. fry them for couple of minutes till you notice them crackling.
  • Now add grated mango and salt  and fry for about minute and take of the stove.
  • Add them to the rice and mix them thoroughly using hand/any big spoon.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves , Exotic taste of rice blended with raw mango and spices is ready to pamper your taste buds.
