Moong dal Grated coconut Kheer/Payasam
Kheer/Payasams are always on cooking list  in any home during festive seasons. Most of us do this on any special ocassion, but I believe payasams are always have different taste in each home and always compellingly new flavor.

Here is my Moongdal payasam recipe..try and see if you have different taste from yours.


  1. Moong dal - 1 cup
  2. Ghee- 1/2 tbsp
  3. Raisins- 1/2 tbsp
  4. cashew-1/2 tbsp
  5. cardomom powder- 1tbsp
  6. jaggery- 1 cup grated
  7. dry coconut- 1/2 cup- finely grated.
  8. Milk- 1 cup


  1. Cook moong dal in a thick bottomed vessel , notice while becoming soft add grated jaggery and cook for about 5 minutes and  keep it aside.
  2. Now heat the ghee in a pan, add raisins till they pop up, also fry cashew till they turn golden color.
  3. Also slightly fry grated dry coconut and keep it aside.
  4. Now add 1 cup bolied milk to the cooked moong dal which is already immersed in jaggery by stirring it.
  5. Also add all other ingredients-raisins, cashews, grated coconut, cardamom powder and mix them thoroughly.
  6. Serve hot and pamper your taste buds:)
